ibase_blob_get

Name

ibase_blob_get — Read data from an open BLOB

Synopsis

string ibase_blob_get(blob, len);
int blob: Handle to an open BLOB
int len: Length of data to read from the BLOB

Returns

Data read from the BLOB, FALSE on error

Description

Reads len bytes of data, or all there is available in case len > amount of data left, from a BLOB opened for reading with ibase_blob_open() . Also advances the point from where data is read, so the next call to this function starts reading where the previous ended. Return value is the data read from BLOB, FALSE if there's no more data left or an error occurred.

Remember to always close the BLOB with ibase_blob_close() after you have done with it, or you risk losing data.

Note

Available in PHP 3 since 3.0.7, PHP 4 since 4.0RC1

Example

Example 532. Read an image and print it out 100 bytes at a time

// Assume that this example is saved in a file "image.php"
// and called with URL http://some.host/image.php?id=some_number
// Suppress all errors with @ so that headers don't get sent before we want
$conn = @ibase_connect("/path/to/employees.gdb", "username", "password");
$res = @ibase_query("SELECT image, image_type FROM employees WHERE emp_id = $id");
if ($row = @ibase_fetch_row($res)) {
    header("Content-type: $row[1]");
    $blobby = ibase_blob_open($row[0]);
    while ($blob_stuff = ibase_blob_get($blobby, 100)) {
        echo $blob_stuff;
    }
    ibase_blob_close($blobby);
}
