ibase_blob_import

Name

ibase_blob_import — Create a new BLOB from an open file handle

Synopsis

string ibase_blob_import([link], file);
int link (optional): Connection or transaction handle
int file: Handle to an open file

Returns

BLOB's internal ID in database on success, FALSE on error

Description

Creates a new BLOB, writes data into it from an open file handle, and then immediately closes it. Returns a BLOB identifier string suitable for inserting into the database. If you don't specify link , it is assumed to be the default transaction on the last opened database connection.

Note that when you insert the newly created BLOB into the database, youmust use a parameter placeholder in your query and bind the return value of this function into it. (See the example.)

Note

Available in PHP 3 since 3.0.7, PHP 4 since 4.0RC1

Example

Example 533. Import an image into database

ibase_connect('/path/to/employees.gdb', 'username', 'password');
$file = fopen("/path/to/test.gif", "r");
$blob = ibase_blob_import($file);
ibase_query("INSERT INTO employees (image, image_type) VALUES (?, 'image/gif')", $blob);
