ocinlogon

Name

ocinlogon — Connect to an Oracle database and log on using a new connection

Synopsis

int ocinlogon(user, pass[, db]);
string user: Username
string pass: Password
string db (optional): Database name

Returns

Connection identifier

Description

Connects to an Oracle database. The db parameter can either contain the Oracle database SID or the name of the database as defined in tnsnames.ora. If db is not defined, ocilogon() will use the either the ORACLE_SID or TWO_TASK environment variable. The TWO_TASK will always override the value in ORACLE_SID.

This function always creates a new connection which differs from the behaviour of ocilogon() or ociogon() . This acts to seperate connections at page level. This means that if multiple seperate connections are made in a script, rolling back or committing a transaction against one connection will not affect other connections in the script, unlike ocilogon() .

Version

Since versions 3.0.4 and 4.0

Example

Example 868. Establish a connection

if (!$db = @ocinlogon("dev","dev", "ORCL")) {
    $error = ocierror();
    printf("There was an error connecting. Error was: %s", $error["message"]);
die();
}

$stmt = ociparse($db,"SELECT * FROM phone_numbers");
ociexecute($stmt);
