mcal_day_of_year

Name

mcal_day_of_year — Returns the day of the year of the given date

Synopsis

int mcal_day_of_year(year, month, day);
int year: The year of the date
int month: The month of the date
int day: The day of the date

Returns

The day of the year (1 - 366) of the given date, or -1 on an error

Description

mcal_day_of_year() determines the day of the year that the given date occurs on. It takes leap years into account. This is often useful if you need to determine how many days are between two dates. If the date is invalid, the function will return -1.

Version

PHP 3 since 3.0.13, PHP 4 since 4.0b4

Example

Example 701. Determining the number of days between two dates

$year = 2000;
$month1 = MCAL_MAY;
$day1 = 23;
$month2 = MCAL_SEPTEMBER;
$day2 = 25;

$days1 = mcal_day_of_year($year, $month1, $day1);
$days2 = mcal_day_of_year($year, $month2, $day2);

// If the two dates are in different years, then
// you'll need to add logic to take that into account.
$difference = abs($days1 - $days2);
echo "There are $difference days between the two dates";
