ibase_num_fields — Fetch the number of fields in a result set


int ibase_num_fields(result);
resource result: Result set handle


Number of fields in result set, or FALSE on error


Returns the number of fields in a result set. Useful if your SQL statement returns all fields from a database of unknown size.


Available in PHP 3 since 3.0.7, PHP 4 since 4.0RC1


Example 546. Get number of fields in a table

$db = ibase_connect('/opt/interbase/examples/employee.gdb') or die("Couldn't connect to database!");
$rs = ibase_query($db, 'select * from job');
$fields = ibase_num_fields($rs);
print "Table 'JOB' contains $fields fields\n";
$rs = ibase_query($db, 'select * from employee');
$fields = ibase_num_fields($rs);
print "Table 'EMPLOYEE' contains $fields fields\n";
