imagefontheight — Determines image font height.

int imagefontheight(font);
int font: Font

Height of font

Returns the height of the specified GD font in pixels. GD contains five built-in fonts that can be used when displaying text. If there are constraints on the size of the string to be used in your image, use this function to help check font height.

Example 421. Display GD font heights

header("Content-type: image/png");
$im = imagecreate(200, 200);
$green = imagecolorallocate($im, 0, 255, 0);
$red = imagecolorallocate($im, 255, 0, 0);
imagefill($im, 0, 0, $red);
for ($i=1; $i<=5; $i++) {
    imagestring($im, $i, 20, $i * 15, "Font: $i", $green);
    $height = imagefontheight($i);
    imagestring($im, $i, 90, $i * 15, "Height: $height", $green);
