dbmfirstkey

Name

dbmfirstkey — Gets the first key in a DBM file.

Synopsis

string dbmfirstkey(identifier);
int identifier: DBM identifier

Returns

Value of the first key; FALSE if the file is empty

Description

Returns the value of the first key in the DBM file. Records are not ordered by value or in lexical order, so use this function to rewind the DBM pointer. By using a combination of dbmnextkey() and other associative array functions, you can sort the contents of the array. For an example, see dbmnextkey() .

Version

Existing since version 3.0

Example

Example 237. Return the first key value

if (!$dbm = dbmopen("testdb", "n")) {
    echo "Could not create DBM file!\n";
}
dbminsert($dbm, "a", "z");
dbminsert($dbm, "b", "y");
echo dbmfirstkey($dbm);
