PhpDig is a PHP MySQL based
Web Spider & Search Engine.

posix_setgid

Name

posix_setgid — Sets the group ID for the calling process (POSIX.1, 4.2.2)

Synopsis

bool posix_setgid(gid);
int gid: Requested group ID

Returns

TRUE on success and FALSE on failure.

Description

This function attempts to set the group ID for the current process to that given in gid . Under Linux, a non-root process may elect to relinquish its priviledged group ID, perform some unpriviledged task, and securely resume its original group ID. Root processes must be more careful, as once they have given up their priviledged group ID it will be impossible to regain.

Version

PHP 3.0.13+, PHP 4.0b4+

Example

Example 1086. Setting the real group ID for a process

if (!posix_setgid(503)) {
    echo "Could not set new group ID.\n";
} else {
    echo "Group ID successfully changed.\n";
}
