posix_getpwuid

Name

posix_getpwuid — Returns information about a user from the system user database (POSIX.1, 9.2.2)

Synopsis

array posix_getpwuid(uid);
int uid: User ID of user record to fetch

Returns

An array of user information on success, or FALSE on failure.

Description

This function returns information about the user whose user ID is given in uid . On Unix-style systems this information will typically be held in the /etc/passwd file. The information is presented in an associated array with the following structure:

  • name: The username.

  • passwd: Contents of the passwd field (may be x or similar on systems with shadow passwords enabled).

  • uid: The user ID.

  • gid: The group ID.

  • gecos: Contents of the GECOS field; intended to hold the user's real name. GECOS stands for 'General Electric Comprehensive Operating System', for historical reasons.

  • dir: The user's home directory.

  • shell: The user's login shell (e.g. /bin/bash).

Version
