pg_fieldisnull — Test the NULL status of a field.

int pg_fieldisnull(result, row, field);
int result: Result identifier
int row: Row number
mixed field: Field

1 if the field value is NULL; 0 if not NULL

Tests whether a field contains a NULL value; returns 1 if the field is NULL or 0 if it's not. The field can be specified as a number (field offset) starting at 0, or by using the field name.

Example 1034. Check for NULL

$db = pg_connect("host=dbserver dbname=db user=dbuser password=dbpasswd");
$sql = "SELECT photo FROM employees";
if (!$result = @pg_exec($sql)) {
    // error
    echo pg_errormessage($db);
} else {
    // display results
    for ($i=0;$i<pg_numrows($result);$i++) {
        if (pg_fieldisnull($result,$i,0)) {
            echo "Field is NULL\n";
        } else {
            echo "Field is not NULL\n";
