Name

ldap_read — Searches a directory on the base level.

mixed connectionID: Connection ID, either a host or an array of hosts
string base: Base distinguished name to use in the search
string filter: Search filter conforming to RFC 1960 and/or 2254
array attributes (optional): Attributes to be returned
int attronly (optional): Whether to return only attribute names
int sizelimit (optional): Maximum number of entries to be returned
int timelimit (optional): Maximum number of seconds to run the search
int (optional): Whether to dereference (not follow references) in the search

Returns

Result ID; FALSE on error

Description

Performs a search on an LDAP directory using the specified filter and a scope of the base level. The optional arguments specify various searching parameters. If a match is not found, the function returnsFALSE. Because it uses only a single level, this function is useful for fast retrieval of an entry when you already know the distinguished name. Because it only returns an entry based on a single distinguished name, if you searched on "dc=foo,dc=com" (for example), this function would not return results such as the entry for "uid=jdoe,dc=foo,dc=com".

Version

PHP Version: 3+, 4+

Example

Example 654. Get results from a single entry

$result = ldap_read($ldapconn, "uid=jdoe,ou=People,dc=foo,dc=com", "");
