ibase_blob_create

Name

ibase_blob_create — Create a new BLOB for writing

Synopsis

int ibase_blob_create([link]);
resource link (optional): Connection or transaction handle

Returns

Open BLOB handle on success, FALSE on error

Description

Creates a new BLOB for filling with data. If you don't specify link , it is assumed to be the default transaction on the last opened database connection. InterBase doesn't store the contents of BLOB columns directly in a database row; instead, BLOBs exist as independent entities having an identification number.

Before inserting a BLOB into a database or replacing an existing one, use this function to create the BLOB and fill it with data using ibase_blob_add() . When done, call ibase_blob_close() to close the BLOB and obtain the returned identification number, in string form. When you insert the newly created BLOB into the database, you must use a parameter placeholder in your query and bind the return value of this function to it.

Note

Available in PHP 3 since 3.0.7, PHP 4 since 4.0RC1

Note

This functions return type will change to resource in the future.

Example

Example 530. See example for ibase_blob_add(), above
