hw_pconnect

Name

hw_pconnect — Establishes a persistent connection to a Hyperwave server

Synopsis

resource hw_pconnect(host, port[, username][, password]);
string host: Hostname for the Hyperwave server
int port: Port to which to connect
string username (optional): Username of user to connect as
string password (optional): Password of user to connect as

Returns

Valid connection resource ID on success; FALSE on error

Description

hw_pconnect() attempts to connect to the Hyperwave server on the host and port given by the host and port parameters. If you want to connect as a given user, you must supply the username and password parameters as well. If you pass username and password as empty strings, you're connected as the user anonymous; however, you can omit these and still connect much like an anonymous user, except that the username is reported as '---' by functions such as hw_who() .

In the default case, the Hyperwave server listens on port 418.

Warning

The username and password are sent in plain text (not encrypted).

Version

PHP 3 since 3.0.3, PHP 4

Example

Example 519. Connect to a Hyperwave server

if (!$hw_link = hw_pconnect('my.hwserver.com', 418, 'myusername', 'mypassword')) {
   echo "Could not connect to Hyperwave server.\n";
}
