dbmopen

Name

dbmopen — Opens a DBM file.

Synopsis

int dbmopen(filename, mode);
string filename: File to open
string mode: File mode

Returns

DBM identifier or FALSE on error

Description

Creates a DBM file with the specified filename. Depending on the implementation of DBM, the file may or may not have an extension, and multiple files may be created. The filename parameter is essentially a basename and the file creation is handled by the DBM library. Additionally, an .lck file is created by PHP for file locking. dbmopen() returns an identifier that can be passed to other DBM functions.

The following table describes the modes.

r Read-only.
n New. May truncate an existing file if a file created by the same DBM implementation exists. Allows read-write operations.
c Create. Will not truncate an existing file, and allows read-write operations.
w Read-write. Will create the file if possible if it does not exist.

Version

Existing since version 3.0

Example

Example 240. Open a DBM file

if (!$dbm = dbmopen("testdb", "n")) {
    echo "Could not create DBM file!\n";
}
