Slow Searches

Charter
Hey, thanks for the help in getting my site indexed. I asked you about the slow indexing before. It ended up taking 36-48 hours for it to index the whole site.

Any ways, now I'm running into a problem with some search results. Sometimes when you search it takes under a second, while other times it takes several HUNDRED seconds! Everything apears to be set up correctly (indexes ect). Any ideas? Is this search not made for hundreds of thousands of key words? I have almost 500,000 in my keywords table.

Thanks!

Hi. Is this slowdown related to what radio button is selected (and operator, exact phrase, or operator) or does it appear to be r****m?

Hi. The 's' means start (and operator). The slowdown may be due to the number of pages indexed. You might try afterBURNER*Cache or some such program or maybe check into what it would take to go dedicated or set up a cluster of servers, none of which I have personally tried with PhpDig so I cannot give a fail-safe solution.

Airplay,

Here's what's in my database:
DataBase status
Hosts : 937 Entries
Pages : 7883 Entries
Index : 1173175 Entries
Keywords : 132606 Entries
Temporary table : 16 Entries

My serches never took more than 5 to 7 seconds and most of the time less than 1 sec. Then I moved the site to a faster server, now searches never take more than 1/2 sec. I suspect you are on a slow server that is VERY slow at peak times.

Thanks for responding!

Here's my info
Hosts : 1 Entries
Pages : 30998 Entries
Index : 11598106 Entries
Keywords : 449938 Entries
Temporary table : 0 Entries

It looks like I have an index that is 10 times the size of yours and I have 4-5 times as many pages. Maybe that would explain why my searches take longer. I don't think the server setup should be a problem. I actually have 2 servers, one runs the web serving and the other only runs mysql.
