Wink Reindexing non-existing urls

After indexing my site, my made some changes to my site, so I deleted some pages no longer needed. The spider was run again through cron, but the same pages that were already deleted are still being indexed and showing up in results. Shouldn't pages that were first indexed and then no longer existing, be removed from the phpdig tables and search results?
