Hi. I believe GB2312 is a multi-byte encoding. There was some work being done here to try and get PhpDig to work with mutli-byte encodings, but as of now PhpDig only works with single-byte encodings like those in the config file as well as Thai found here.
EDIT: Check out PhpDig v.1.8.8 RC1+ for multibyte support.
