I think you've got a great idea.
More documentation can help smooth the way for everyone. I hope you will feel free to just jump in and do that.
I've talked myself about putting together some sort of FAQ for the forums, since there seem to be several threads that I refer to frequently to help answer some of the same questions over and over. Like the documentation you're talking about doing, it would be nice to have a lot of those common questions asked and answered in one central place.
