I: PHPDIG 1.8.9 RC1 - Cannot index.

I have PHPDIG 1.8.9 and PHP 5 and SafeMode = off.
I cannot index, I get only a message, like:

upgrade to php5 + phpDig 1.8.9 RC1 = mb_ereg_replace() error
 

Has anyone figured out how to make this work?
Should we instead use version 1.8.8?

'Cause now it cannot index or spider and i get the mb_ereg_replace() error when i search for something.
